What a great way to end 2022/start 2023 then by receiving my yoga teacher certification. It was quite a bit of work, but so worth it. Hit some bumps along the way, but I finished and feel such a great sense of accomplishment.
The Journey Begins
I started on this journey in summer 2022 and had a goal of finishing by Christmas. Everything moved along pretty quickly and quite well until I had to write out the scripts for my classes. When you are in a class, it all seems to move along so easily and flows from pose to pose. Well, writing a script for those classes is a lot more difficult than it seems. A lot of thought goes into it including what props to use, how to open and close a class, transitions, themes, etc.
Time Consuming
It took about 3-4 hours to write the first class sequence. That’s right 3-4 hours. I thought, “This is going to take forever to write 8 sequences.” Sent the first sequence in for feedback and got some great information and ways to improve the sequence. I used that feedback plus other ideas I found while researching yoga sequences.
Say it isn’t so
I wrote 7 of my sequences and it took quite a while, but I got into a groove of writing them and editing them. Then…dun dun dun…my computer died. I didn’t know if those hours and hours of sequences were saved or not. Lost sleep worrying about it. I brought my computer in for repair and they said they probably just needed to reinstall the software and nothing would be lost. Well, of course, it wasn’t as easy as that. It had to be sent in for repairs, which would have cost almost as much as getting a new computer so I opted for the new computer.
Happily Ever After
Thankfully, all my sequences and observations were saved to the Cloud…yay…so nothing was lost. I did my final observation on December 23 and sent in all my finished work. They said I’d hear in 2 weeks or maybe a little longer. I opened my email on December 30 and my congratulatory email and certificate were there…and in one week. Now I’m doing my Yin Yoga certification, which is the type of classes that I want to lead.
Yoga Renew Teaching Training was a great alternative for me. You cannot beat the price and I could do the coursework when it was convenient for me. The communication was great; emails were always answered quickly and completely. If you are thinking about YTT, give it a look. You won’t regret it.
It sounds like you are doing awesome. I know so many people do Yoga. I just get the giggles when I try it.
I’ve been thinking about trying my hand in yoga this year; something of a New Years resolution thing. And this post just makes me what to try it out more! Thank you so much for sharing!
Give it a try…you’ll love it.
I’ve always thought about doing yoga. It’s something I really want to give a try. I can’t do certainly exercises because of my migraines, but I heard yoga is good, so I’d love to try it.
It will definitely help with migraines. Give it a try.
Congrats on getting certified as a yoga teacher! I tried some in the past but it just never stuck with me. Our daughter loves to do it though!
Being a yoga teacher must be an interesting thing. I loved knowing about your journey
