Several years ago, I wrote about Wanderlust 108 in Boston. One of the best days ever! Well, I may have a new favorite day: Wanderlust Stratton 2019. Wanderlust is a yoga/meditation/good vibes festival and it takes place in cities and towns all over the world. What does this have to do with kombucha you may ask? Well, read on and find out.
Kombucha Love
There were various vendors at the Wanderlust festival. Many of the vendors were giving away free samples and/or free stuff so my friend and I were excited to sample the kombucha. Health-ade kombucha was one of the vendors and they had the most delicious free samples. We tried many of their flavors: Pomegranate, Pink Lady Apple, Ginger-Lemon, Bubbly Rose and Cherry-Berry. I loved all of them except Ginger-lemon because I’m not a ginger fan.
One of the classes that I chose to take during one of my days was a kombucha making workshop. A few of the representatives from Health-are showed us how easy it is to make your own kombucha. It is quite easy to buy Health-Ade because it is in a lot of local stores, but I thought I’d give the Make Your Own Kombucha a try at home.
What is a SCOBY?
So during the class, we were introduced to a SCOBY. What?? It stands for symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. If you have never heard of or seen a SCOBY, it is a gelatinous disc which is an ingredient used in the fermentation and production of this fermented tea. A SCOBY is the living home for the bacteria and yeast that ferments sweet tea into lovely kombucha.
There are some wonderful YouTube videos that give you the step by step rundown of making and flavoring kombucha. There is also a video on making a SCOBY hotel . Check them out even if you don’t want to make a batch. It is fascinating.
Probiotic Heaven
We are constantly being told to get those probiotics to keep the good bacteria alive in our gut. Kombucha is probiotic heaven. As one of the reps said from Health-ade, when you take a probiotic capsule, you are ingesting dried up probiotics that may or may not be activated once they reach your gut. Kombucha has the live cultures that go right to your gut and support the good bacteria!
I am just giving you an overview of kombucha and it’s fermenting process. There are tons of resources on line to help you in the process. I am not receiving any money or products for promoting Health-Ade; I just really love it and what to share the kombucha love! Give it a try…you’ll love it too.
It’s interesting to read about what goes into making kombucha. I imagine it was exciting to learn all about it and the festival sounds like fun too.
More power to you for loving the stuff, but I just cannot stomach it. I think it’s rancid. That being said, I know so many people who love Kombucha and it fascinates me – showcasing how vastly different everyone’s taste preferences are!
I am obsessed with it:)
I could use a good probiotic! I need my stomach to love me again! I will have to check these out.
Yes! Give it a try.
ive actually never had kombucha but i have heard such great things about it. i may have to get to the store and get some right now 🙂 great post@
Thanks Cait!
I haven’t tried this before. I keep hearing about it, but I am iffy. I might give it a try. I can’t do Yoga though. I just get the giggles.
I have yet to try kombucha, but am open to new things. Yoga….yes, love the practice!
Give a try…I hope you like it!
This is the second time I’ve heard of kombucha this week. I never even heard of it until someone I know said they use it cocktails.
Sounds like the universe is wanting you to try kombucha!
This is really interesting. I have heard of Scoby before but this information really attracts my attention. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Dennis!
This is fascinating! I had never heard of Scoby before but have incredible gut problems that I would like to fix. Saving this for future use.
Give it a try! I had acid reflux and probiotics helped it so much.
That sounds really good. I’ve never actually tried it before either. Something I certainly would love to give a try sometime.
The festival sounds like so much fun and I loved learning more about kombucha
this looks like a drink i would really enjoy. thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe. this would be so delicious and healthy on a hot day such as this.
I would love to try and make this at home. I always hear so many wonderful things about it.
I love Kombucha! Kombucha and Yoga are the perfect match! 🙂
I totally agree:)
This is interesting to know! And oh, I need to try this probiotic thing.
I still need to try kombucha. I’ve heard so much about it.
I might be one of the few people who has not tried kombucha yet. Definitely eye-opening to learn about the process that goes into making it. And the Wanderlust festival sounds like so much fun.
I want to go to Wanderlust so bad! Sounds amazing! I’ve been brewing my own kombucha for years and really enjoy it!
Yay! That’s great. My first batch is ready to go in the fridge. Can’t wait to try it.
I am a huge kombucha fan. In fact, I just finished one a few Minutes ago! I love that something so tasty is so good for you. We’re all about probiotics in my family so it’s good to know there’s a good amount in Kombucha!
Yay! Another kombucha lover…I’m obsessed.
I had not heard of Kombucha before. This is an interesting blog post.
I’ve never tried Kambucha, but it does sound interesting! My sister used to make it and love it.
I need to try to eat more of these…I’ve actually never tried it yet!
I started drinking kombucha about a year ago and love them! So many great brands to try out.
Don’t you just love it. My second batch was infested with fruit flies 🙁 so I had to throw it out. Back to the drawing board!
We’ve been wanting to try making kombucha ourselves as well! Looks like you’ve got the hang of it!
If you do make it yourself, be sure that the cloth you put over the top is a tight weave. I used cheesecloth and my second batch got infested by fruit flies 🙁
I haven’t tried kombucha before I heard it takes so bad, but won’t knock it until I try it!
I didn’t think that I’d like it, but I LOVE it!
I feel like it’s so hard to find a Kombucha that actually tastes good. I have found a lavender one that’s really good. That retreat sounds relaxing!
Give Healthade a try! No artificial anything.
I’ve just recently heard of Scoby and I need to find it. I have gut trouble and need to help it.
I got my SCOBY from Etsy and it is great!
This sounds like a cool experience! I actually try to drink kombucha every day but I haven’t tried to make it myself yet.
I have it every day too! So yummy.
Super interesting! I’m addicted to kombucha and learned so much reading this!
I too am addicted to kombucha!
