Peace, Love and Kombucha…(and some yoga too!)

Love

Several years ago, I wrote about Wanderlust 108 in Boston. One of the best days ever! Well, I may have a new favorite day: Wanderlust Stratton 2019. Wanderlust is a yoga/meditation/good vibes festival and it takes place in cities and towns all over the world. What does this have to do with kombucha you may ask? Well, read on and find out.

Kombucha Love

There were various vendors at the Wanderlust festival. Many of the vendors were giving away free samples and/or free stuff so my friend and I were excited to sample the kombucha. Health-ade kombucha was one of the vendors and they had the most delicious free samples. We tried many of their flavors: Pomegranate, Pink Lady Apple, Ginger-Lemon, Bubbly Rose and Cherry-Berry. I loved all of them except Ginger-lemon because I’m not a ginger fan.

One of the classes that I chose to take during one of my days was a kombucha making workshop. A few of the representatives from Health-are showed us how easy it is to make your own kombucha. It is quite easy to buy Health-Ade because it is in a lot of local stores, but I thought I’d give the Make Your Own Kombucha a try at home.

What is a SCOBY?

So during the class, we were introduced to a SCOBY. What?? It stands for symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. If you have never heard of or seen a SCOBY, it is a gelatinous disc which is an ingredient used in the fermentation and production of this fermented tea. A SCOBY is the living home for the bacteria and yeast that ferments sweet tea into lovely kombucha.

There are some wonderful YouTube videos that give you the step by step rundown of making and flavoring kombucha. There is also a video on making a SCOBY hotel . Check them out even if you don’t want to make a batch. It is fascinating.

Probiotic Heaven

We are constantly being told to get those probiotics to keep the good bacteria alive in our gut. Kombucha is probiotic heaven. As one of the reps said from Health-ade, when you take a probiotic capsule, you are ingesting dried up probiotics that may or may not be activated once they reach your gut. Kombucha has the live cultures that go right to your gut and support the good bacteria!

I am just giving you an overview of kombucha and it’s fermenting process. There are tons of resources on line to help you in the process. I am not receiving any money or products for promoting Health-Ade; I just really love it and what to share the kombucha love! Give it a try…you’ll love it too.

It’s interesting to read about what goes into making kombucha. I imagine it was exciting to learn all about it and the festival sounds like fun too.

More power to you for loving the stuff, but I just cannot stomach it. I think it’s rancid. That being said, I know so many people who love Kombucha and it fascinates me – showcasing how vastly different everyone’s taste preferences are!

If you do make it yourself, be sure that the cloth you put over the top is a tight weave. I used cheesecloth and my second batch got infested by fruit flies 🙁
