As I sat on the beach looking out at the ocean this morning, my happier place, I couldn’t help but get into a meditative state. When the waves came in, I felt the positive energy come to me. As the waves went out, I could feel that negativity being washed out to sea. I could match the waves to my breath, too. Breathe in…waves in; breathe out…waves out. Maybe this is one of the reasons that I love the beach and ocean so much. Such a perfect metaphor for living.
Some of the waves started out very fierce and looked somewhat dangerous. They would crash violently, making a huge splash. Once they crashed and then made it to the shore, however, they were calm and smooth. At times, this is how problems may seem in our lives. We feel like the problem is fierce and we confront it as it comes at us. When we do this, it is bound to knock us over. When we give it some time and a little distance, it levels off and drifts away.
While gazing out over the ocean, I noticed how the paddleboarders were at one with the ocean waves. They would paddle out, stand tall and just let the current lead them. They didn’t fight the waves or current, they just went with it. When I saw other people try to fight the waves or go against the current, they were not successful. Another metaphor…just ride the current and let it take you where it needs to. Don’t fight it and you may end up in a place of true calm and peace. It was amazing how easily those paddleboarders just rode the rise and fall of the ocean and let it take them on a beautiful journey.
It’s funny because growing up, I lived close to the beach, but didn’t spend a lot of time there because I have fair skin and I always had to cover up so I didn’t get burned. I also hated the sand all over me. Now that I am older, I just love the sunshine on my face and don’t mind the sand at all. It has become a place of relaxation, calm and peace. I still live close to the ocean and spend a lot more time there, even going on vacation to other beaches. This is even where I got the name for my blog.
That sounds like it was absolutely relaxing! I can sit at the ocean for hours and just listen to the waves. It’s very peaceful. It looks like you enjoyed it also.
Yes…the beach is awesome.
I love the beach. I could just sit and watch the ocean and waves for ever. There is just something relaxing about it.
I could too.
How timely. We just spent our weekend in Cape Cod. The weather/water was perfect! And my daughter took some turns with paddleboarding. She even stood up successfully!
So funny…I live in MA, but went on vacation to OBX, NC
I’ve always found the ocean very relaxing, even when the waves crash on the shore. It has a certain rhythm to it that makes it calming for me.
I absolutely LOVE the sound of the ocean.
I am also a water person. I feel so calm when I can relax on the beach. I will have to try meditating to the sound of the waves next time I am there.
It’s the perfect location for meditation.
I was never a beach fan (& I’ve been to over 10 beaches in my life) until I visited a friend. It was during my first post-grad job and I took a vacation to go see her. It completely changed my perspective of the beach and how calming it can be. So I completely understand how it is your happier place.

I know how you feel…I was never really a beach person and then my opinion totally changed.
The ocean is my happy place too. I’m a water baby so the ocean soothes my soul.
LOVE the sound of the ocean.
Going to the beach is so relaxing and peaceful. It’s a great way to de-stress and reset mentally.
The perfect place to reset.
I have lived all my life in the city! This is exactly why I treasure every moment I can spend on the beach. If I had my way, I would live in a modest house near the beach!
We are hoping to retire near the beach one day:)
The ocean is so relaxing. Just sitting and listening and breathing in the summer air. I really need to plan a trip to the beach soon.
I LOVE to sit and watch the waves.
I love going to the beach. I think when there is no one around you can really take some me time to meditate and practice gratitude.
It is the perfect place for meditation.
The weight and the stress of events often build up like waves and crash down. This is how I feel planning my wedding reception, lol.
I remember those days…just breathe and try to enjoy the experience.
I haven’t been to the ocean in years. I really want to take my son at least once this summer. We only live about two hours from the shore.
Make sure to fit in that trip:)
Wow this looks like an absolute dream! I always love being at the beach!
Yes it is!!
The ocean is our happy place. We love jumping waves, swimming and even just sitting and taking it all in.
LOVE the waves.
I have always love the beach and also grew up near it. I love to go at night when most people are gone and just sit on the pier. There is something calming about the sound of the water.
LOVE the sound of waves at night.
I wish I was closer to the ocean. I think the ocean always brings an instant calm.
I agree!
Such beautiful lessons to be earned from the ocean. I love just sitting and watching.
Absolutely!
This makes me want to go to the beach so badly!! I’ve barely gotten to go this summer so this made me crave it even more!
Make sure you get there:)
I love the beach for relaxation too! My parents live on Amelia Island, so it is SO nice to have some place free to go!
You are lucky indeed!!
When I need to clear my mind I like to go to the beach for a walk. The sound of the sea is so relaxing. It is nu surprise that you went into a meditative state.
I LOVE the sound of the ocean.
There is part of me that always feels so calm and happy at the beach. It is one of my favorite place!
Me too!!
One of my favorite quotes is “The answer may not be at the beach, but shouldn’t we at least check?”
The ocean is my happy place too!
LOVE that!!
I love the beach and sitting there listening to the waves as they crash and fall! It is relaxing to sit there but also when you walk along the beach and let the water cover your feet. Thanks for taking me back with your post!
I love the sounds and feelings of the beach.
I can absolutely relate. The ocean is my happy, relaxing place too. There’s nothing more relaxing than listening to the waves! I can’t wait to get back!
Make sure to get there!!
By the sea is my happy place too. I’ve lived on an island all my life and I couldn’t picture ever being away from it. It’s so relaxing watching and hearing the waves lull in and out.
🙂

I use to live by the ocean, but I never really went. I am not sure why. With this article I wish I would have gone more often!
The ocean is so powerful and calming.
What a lovely metaphor for life, I love the calmness of the sea. Even with violent waves it still manages to cool down and I love the idea of going with the flow
Thank you Anosa
